ABA Therapy Begins
ABA Therapy Near Cielo Vista and Hawkins Blvd
Applied Behavior Analysis, or ABA therapy, is an evidence-based approach that uses structured, data-driven strategies to help build communication, social, daily living, and behavioral skills. While ABA principles can support a wide range of developmental and behavioral goals, insurance coverage for ABA therapy services typically requires an autism spectrum disorder diagnosis. At Empower, we verify your insurance and walk through what is covered with you before services begin.
Who Is ABA Therapy For?
ABA therapy is most commonly recommended for children and individuals diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. At Empower, we serve individuals starting as early as 18 months through adulthood. Because we do not use an age cap, the right program depends on each person’s goals, developmental needs, and clinical recommendations rather than their age alone.
We serve families across Central El Paso, including those near Cielo Vista, Hawkins Blvd, Fort Bliss, and surrounding neighborhoods. We are proud to support military families through TRICARE, and welcome families at all stages — whether newly diagnosed, navigating ABA therapy for the first time, or looking for a provider experienced with more complex needs. Wherever your family is in that process, our team is here to help.

Full-Time ABA Day Program
Our full-time program runs about 30 to 40 hours a week, Monday through Friday, and is structured similarly to a school day. Children move through a mix of group and individualized activities suited to their age and goals. Activities may include social groups, sports, music, art, and play-based learning, with younger children often participating in circle time and more age-appropriate group formats for adolescents.
Whether a child works best in a group setting or needs 1:1 support to build toward those goals, the program meets each learner where they are. Feeding, toileting, and other daily living goals are addressed within the program when clinically appropriate, in whatever setting works best for that child.
Part-Time ABA Therapy for Targeted Support
Our part-time program runs about 15 to 25 hours a week, Monday through Friday, and is designed for individuals who may need focused support in specific areas rather than a full-time schedule. This can be a good fit for children already enrolled in school or other programs who need targeted help with communication, social skills, or specific behavioral goals.
The right number of hours looks different for every child. During the initial assessment, your child’s BCBA will evaluate their skills and recommend the number of hours medically necessary to support their progress.

Getting Started with ABA in Central El Paso
Before your child's first session, here is what the process looks like.
We Verify Your Insurance
Our intake team collects your insurance information, verifies your coverage, and walks through it with you so you know what to expect before moving forward.
Confirming Your Child's Diagnosis
We ask for a copy of your child's autism spectrum disorder diagnosis. If your child has not been diagnosed yet, we can connect you with local providers who can help.
Your Child's Initial Assessment
Once we have the diagnosis on file, we request approval from your insurance for an initial assessment. This in-person visit takes at least two hours, where a BCBA gets to know your child and identifies their specific goals.
Building Your Child's Plan
After the assessment, your BCBA puts together an individualized treatment plan and recommends the number of hours medically necessary to support your child's progress, whether that is our full-time or part-time program.
ABA Therapy Begins
Once your child's plan is approved by insurance, they can begin ABA services at our Central El Paso clinic.
Parents Are Part of the Process
Empower has an open door policy, meaning you are welcome to visit your child at the clinic any time. Parents typically meet with their child's BCBA for parent training about once a month to provide support and help families feel confident applying strategies at home, with frequency adjusted based on each family's needs and availability.

-
What is the difference between full-time and part-time ABA programs?
Our full-time program runs about 30 to 40 hours a week and provides structured, consistent support throughout the day, similar to a school setting. Our part-time program runs about 15 to 25 hours a week and is designed for individuals who need focused support in specific areas. Both programs run Monday through Friday. The recommended program and number of hours is determined during your child’s initial assessment, where a BCBA will evaluate their skills and recommend the hours medically necessary to support their progress.
-
What does a typical day look like in the full-time program?
A typical day in our full-time program is structured similarly to a school day. Children move through a mix of group and individualized activities suited to their age and goals. Younger children often participate in circle time and play-based learning. Adolescents may join more age-appropriate group settings like social groups, morning meetings, or sports, music, and art activities. Whether a child works best in a group setting or needs 1:1 support, the program is built around what works best for each learner.
-
How long does the initial assessment take?
The initial assessment is completed in person and takes at least two hours. During this visit, a BCBA works directly with your child to understand their skills, behaviors, and goals. Parents are an important part of this process. You may be asked to complete questionnaires or participate in an interview with the BCBA so we can get a thorough and accurate picture of your child’s needs from your perspective as well. After the assessment, your BCBA will develop an individualized treatment plan and recommend the number of hours medically necessary to support your child’s progress.
-
Can Empower support children with complex needs or children turned away by other providers?
Yes. Empower is committed to supporting children and individuals with a wide range of needs, including those with more complex behavioral or developmental profiles. We work hard to find the right fit for every family, including families who have been told their child is too old or too complex elsewhere. While every situation is unique, we encourage you to reach out so our intake team can learn more about your child and talk through what support may look like for your family.
-
Is toilet training support part of ABA therapy at Empower?
Yes. Toileting is one of many goals that may be addressed as part of a child’s individualized ABA treatment plan when it is clinically appropriate. Our team approaches every goal, including toileting, based on the individual needs of each child and what will best support their independence.

What should I bring to my child's first ABA therapy appointment?
There is no need to bring anything special. We will provide any materials needed for the assessment. Parents may be asked to stay and complete questionnaires or participate in an interview with the BCBA so we can get a thorough picture of their child’s needs, since involving parents from the very beginning is an important part of how we build each treatment plan. If your child uses diapers or has specific hygiene needs, bring what you would normally have on hand for them. A water bottle is also a good idea. And if there is a favorite toy or comfort item that helps your child feel more at ease in a new environment, you are welcome to bring that along too.
-
What happens if my child does not have an autism diagnosis yet?

If your child has not yet been evaluated, or is in need of an updated evaluation, our intake team can connect you with local providers in the [City area who can help. When you are ready to move forward, we are here to help you take the next step.
